With fostering to adopt nothing is for certain. We can be matched with a child and quickly have the child taken away (as shown in one of our previous posts). Even if a child or children are placed in our home with the possibility to adopt, it does not mean that adoption will happen. The prime focus of the foster system is reunification with the biological family. When all attempts are exhausted for reunification, then adoption is brought to the table. So even with us being matched with these girls and moving forward with meeting them and the possibility of them moving into our home, there is never a guarantee that adoption will take place. It’s of course our desire but not the official plan as far as the State or Agency is concerned. In the end, it’s about the children and what is best for them. Our job is to keep them safe and to love them and give them that safe and loving environment of normalcy. It’s not an easy task by any means. This journey comes with a whole glob of challenges and frustrations, but also so much possibility of happiness. We are not evilly plotting to steal children and rip them from their homes. We want to be the possible rainbow after the storm when there are no other possible options for the children to return home. We come into the picture towards the end of the children’s journey in the foster system.
I just wanted to make this clear to everyone who comes across this blog.
