Adoption has been something I’ve always wanted to do even back when I was in high school. I have always had a dream in having a big family of having at least six children. When Jason and I went through our premarital counseling before our wedding that was one topic we didn’t see eye to eye on. He wanted two children and I wanted six. I told him I could meet him halfway with four. I don’t think he ever really agreed to this, though, but we did get married. haha
Well, after our infertility challenges, then the loss of our twins due to miscarriage, then Jason’s cancer, adoption was our next option. I was all set and ready to go. Jason was a bit hesitant. We did a bunch of research to figure out what method would be the best for us to grow our family. Along the way we kept receiving a bunch of signs to adopt… random commercials on TV or on advertisements online. And then one day we went grocery shopping and as I was getting out of the car I saw a decal on the car next to us about adoption. That was the last sign I needed. This was the route we needed to follow. It was as if God was trying to push us in this direction.
All throughout our infertility journey the main thing I would say is, “I just want to know if we CAN get pregnant.” Well, we received that answer of yes we can get pregnant, but maybe it just was not the plan God had for us. We comfort ourselves with saying, “God needed our babies more than we did.”
Once Jason and I finally agreed to start the adventure of adoption we decided to tell our friends and family. So in March of 2017 we announced to our friends and family our plans to adopt and everyone seemed to be thrilled for us. So many questions were asked but we didn’t have all the answers yet. We were still trying to figure things out.
We checked out different agencies to see what was a good fit for us. We were overwhelmed on the costs for adoption but we pushed forward. We decided to host a mega adoption fundraiser. We had over 30 small business vendors, we had a mega rummage sale, sold food, silent auction, etc. The works. We figured go bigger or stay home. I may have been way over my head during the planning process, but the event was a success. (A few pictures are shared below)
Then it was time to fill out the paperwork with the agency and begin this process.
